Our way-marked trail to The Balvenie Pillar is now open. John Stewart was executed at Hangman’s Knoll in the grounds of the Castle in 1630, the last public hanging on the Estate. In 1755, the Earl of Atholl built the Balvenie Pillar in that very spot to recognise the event.
