This winter, with so many challenges facing your holiday bookings, Blair Castle has decided to offer
exclusive tours, aiming to expand your winter options. The tours must be pre-booked for parties of
between 1 to 8 people and they can be designed around specific interests. Our winter opening
times are Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm. The castle’s extensive history will unfold as
you tour up to 30 rooms, including a trip to the attics and tower, not normally open to visitors. The
tour will be hosted by one of our senior guides who will be happy to dwell on any special interest
you may have.
The castle is well known for its fine collections of 18th century furniture and plasterwork, its
extensive collection of china and lace while the Victorian era is full of intrigue. The Duke and
Duchess of the day were close friends of Queen Victoria as depicted in the ITV series ‘Victoria’. The
Jacobite history closely involved the sons of the 1st Duke. He had 20 children – an heir and many to
spare, which was fortunate in these turbulent times. A newly designed exhibition room opened this
year to tell the story. The 20th century saw the wife of the 8th Duke become Scotland’s first female
Member of Parliament and first female Minister of State. A room is dedicated to her achievements.
The front hall with its extensive array of weapons intrigues all ages, as a polar bear looks on from a
safe distance. If any of these subjects are of particular interest to you please tell the guide at
the start of the tour or mention it when you make your booking.
The tour will typically take one and a half – two hours, but can be shortened if your time is limited.
For your safety, people in different social bubbles will be asked to keep a 2m distance,
masks must be worn.
The castle gardens can be explored before or after your tour any time between 10am and 4pm.
