Wi-Fi coverage now encompasses almost all of Blair Castle Caravan Park thanks to a momentous collaborative effort by Atholl Estates and Highland Perthshire Community Partnership.
Regional Wi-Fi network broadband is beamed to the park – and wider area – from a beacon on the hills above Pitlochry. A small receiver dish at the caravan park receives the signal and bounces it around a Wi-Fi network so that a signal reaches virtually all pitches.
Wi-Fi is free for roaming and social media etc (500kB), with a subscription model for streaming (8MB).
Andrew Bruce Wootton, General Manager, said: “The desire to be ‘connected’ while on holiday has been increasingly vocalised by park guests and we are delighted to now make broadband available. Blair Atholl and Calvine communities will also be covered after the pilot period at the park is complete.
“This has been a momentous effort by the team at Highland Perthshire Community Partnership, using cutting-edge technology to resolve the problem of promoting public broadband to this area. We now have the prospect of a network which will eventually cover much of Highland Perthshire.”
