Family Friendly Events at Blair Castle

Join us for a fun filled family adventure!

Whether it’s an Easter egg hunt, rock painting, beasty bug hunting or learning foraging skills, you’ll find all you need right here.

Each event details dates, timings, pricing and whether the event requires a booking.

 

Spring Events:

Deer Feeding | Weekends at 12.30pm & 2.30pm 

Visit our Red Deer Park where you can take part in feeding sessions and learn all about these beautiful creatures.  Timings and days can be subject to change, please call ahead to enquire.

Meet at the red deer park at the top of the small grassy hill near the Tullibardine Restaurant entrance.

Red deer are curious and will often walk towards you and pose for photos if you stand next to their enclosure so feel free to visit them at any time during your visit.

Available for free with a Gardens and Grounds entry ticket.

Easter Egg Hunt | 5th April – 22nd April
Inside the Castle

Join in with our Easter Egg Hunt inside the castle throughout the Easter holidays. Collect your prize from the shop upon completion!

Easter Sunday Fun Activity Day | Sunday 20th April | 11am – 3pm
Banvie Hall (The glass entrance doors at the far end of the Castle)

Meet the Easter Bunny at the Banvie Hall at 11am to guide you through our fun children’s activities this Easter Sunday.  The events below will flow from one into the next and there are prizes for both competitions and the Egg Hunt.

Easter Ranger Events | 8th April – 18th April
Blair Atholl Information Centre and Glen Tilt Car Park

Join our ranger Julia for lots of fun activities throughout the Easter holidays.

These activities are outside of the castle grounds and do not require a ticket.  The meeting points are within Blair Atholl village a short 2 minute drive from the castle.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

A donation pot will be available at each event.  All proceeds go directly to The Cairngorms to help care for wildlife, maintain paths and car parks.

Spring Foraging | Saturday 10th May and Sunday 11th May | 10.30am – 1.30pm

Join foraging expert Tamara to learn about the edible and medicinal spring plants found in the grounds of Blair Castle & Gardens.  The course consists of a 3 hour foraging experience, in which you will learn lifelong identification techniques, inspiring recipe ideas, and a wealth of ethnobotanical tales.

During the walk we will move through a variety of habitats – woodland, meadow, hedgerow and garden – taking time to connect with each surrounding environment, noticing their changing flora and subtle variations in character.

This event must be pre-booked.

Atholl Highlanders Parade | Saturday 24th May | 11am – 3pm

The Atholl Highlanders are the only remaining private regiment in Europe and act as the personal bodyguard to the Duke of Atholl, who is Chief of Clan Murray. Whilst they don’t have any military role, they are armed with Lee-Metford rifles, and include a pipe band.

Join us from 11am in the Ballroom for an Atholl Highlanders talk. Before heading to the forecourt of Blair Castle from 2.30pm for the annual parade, including a live pipe band and the firing of the cannon.

Entry to the parade is included with your Gardens ticket.

The Atholl Gathering | Sunday 25th May | 9.30am – 3.30pm

The Atholl Highlanders officially open the Highland Games with a ‘March On’, led by the sound of their pipes and drums.

Strongmen from around Scotland take centre stage to battle it out. Events include tossing the caber, putting the shot and throwing the hammer. There are plenty of other attractions, such as highland dancing, tug o’ war, solo piping, trade stands and refreshments to provide a fun day out for all the family.

Adults: £10.50 | Child: £5.00 | Senior: £6.00

Summer Foraging | Saturday 2nd August and Sunday 3rd August | 10.30am – 1.30pm

Join foraging expert Tamara Colchester on a three-hour summer experience that will introduce participants to around 15 wild, edible and medicinal trees, flowers and plants, along with their etymology, folklore and how best to prepare them. Learn as you go about poisonous plants, and how to safely identify and avoid them.

This meditative, sensory walk will take you into the riotous abundance of summer, ending in a foraged herbal tea with delicious cakes and biscuits prepared with wild ingredients.

This event must be pre-booked.

Autumn Events:

Autumn Foraging | Saturday 20th September and Sunday 21st September | 10.30am – 1.30pm

Join foraging expert Tamara Colchester on a 3 hour autumn foraging course that will introduce participants to around 15 wild, edible and medicinal trees, flowers and plants, ending in a foraged herbal tea with delicious cakes and biscuits prepared with wild ingredients.

This event must be pre-booked. 

Adult: £45.00

Halloween Fun | October Half Term 

Collect your activity sheet at the entrance hall to and hunt for broomsticks inside the castle rooms.  Head outside and search for hidden spooky objects and answer questions from around the castle grounds.  Once completed collect a small prize from the gift shop.
