Call of the Wild

Hamish and Liberty welcome you to Call of the Wild where you can connect with nature and be inspired to embrace sustainability through day long courses or shorter experiences.

 

Hamish, a SSSI custodian, wild habitat conservationist and a qualified Herbologist from the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh will guide you through engaging and informative topics that will leave you inspired and rejuvenated.

The Call of the Wild is located on Tombane Farm near Ballinluig in Highland Perthshire.  Accessible from all our lodges; between a 15 minute and 40 minute drive.

Courses at Call of the Wild

Courses vary with the seasons and usually run from 10.00am – 4.00pm with a light lunch included.  

  • Growing Vegetables Holistically: This course explores holistic vegetable growing for all plot sizes. It covers organic principles, soil health, crop rotation, companion planting, natural feeds, pest control, and developing a deeper connection with plants.
  • Planning & Planting a Herbal Garden: Discover herb garden design, planting combinations, and integrating edible flowers, culinary herbs, shrubs, and native plants to create a vibrant, fragrant, and nourishing space for both body and soul.
  • A Home Apothecary: This course introduces creating a home apothecary, covering infusions, tinctures, and balms. It highlights the medicinal value of wild native plants, revealing their beauty, power, and practical uses.

Call of the Wild Experiences

Unforgettable experiences combining the wild lands, wildlife, raw scenery, rich history and heritage highland wear.  Lasting between 1.5 and 2.5 hours they are perfect as a part day activity. Experiences can be enhanced by choosing a wonderful lunch option that are tailored to you.

  • Herbal Foraging Walk: Explore native Scottish plants, folklore, and plant uses. Walk through diverse landscapes and our regenerative farm.
  • Herbal Infusions, Decoctions & Cold Infusions: Discover Scotland’s native flora through herbal tea making. Guests learn infusion techniques, health benefits, and work with seasonal plants in an engaging presentation.
  • How Scotland’s Fauna and Flora Wove the Rich Tapestry of Tartan: Uncover how Scotland’s flora shaped tartan history. This presentation covers plant-based dyeing, clan tartan colours, and includes seasonal plant materials and corresponding yarn samples.
  • Into the Wild: Join us for a guided nature reconnection walk through our SSSI Caledonian woodland. Explore ancient Scots Pines, witness soaring raptors, and immerse yourself in the stunning Highland Perthshire Tay Valley landscape.
  • Scottish Flora, Fauna & Folklore: Learn about Scotland’s flora, its medicinal and culinary uses, and folklore. This interactive presentation includes plant samples for hands-on observation and discussion.
