Blair Castle Whisky Exhibition

Whisky believed to be distilled almost 200 years ago and sipped by a young Queen Victoria, was discovered in 2022 behind a hidden cellar door in Blair Castle. Thought to be the oldest known Scotch whisky in existence, a carefully curated exhibition will be on show from March 2024.

Learn about the fascinating discovery of the World’s oldest whisky, which was found in the cellar at Blair Castle in 2022. Our guides will share stories about the people who have tasted this whisky, and the intricate detailing and differences between the bottles.

Illicit distilling is a big part of the estate’s history, with rural workers distilling their own whisky out of sight from the dreaded excise man. Listen to fascinating stories of how the men communicated to warn each other when the excise man was near, and how they swiftly moved their operations.

This unique tour is perfect for anyone eager to delve into the story of whisky in Perthshire, Scotland. With intimate group sizes, participants have the opportunity to ask questions to our guides.

Each participant will receive a take-home whisky flight and a Blair Castle branded nose glass, perfect for tasting your whiskies at home. The whisky flight includes three sample-sized whiskies:

• Tullibardine 15 Year Old Single Malt
• The Glenturret Triple Wood Single Malt
• Blair Castle Speyside Single Malt (Limited Edition)

Tour Details:

• Duration: 45-50 minute private tour
• Cost: £60 per person
• Schedule: Wednesdays & Saturdays, 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM
• Meet: Your guide will meet you in the main reception in the castle entrance hall at the start of the tour
• Group Size: 2 to 10 people per tour
• Discount: 10% off whisky, glassware and hip flasks in the gift shop after the tour
• Bonus: Entry to the Castle & Grounds is included in your ticket. Go round the castle again after your tour!

Accessibility: The tour includes both downstairs and upstairs levels of the castle. Please note that the castle has stairs only, and wheelchairs are not permitted on the upper floors.

Cloackroom: There is a coat rail in the entrance hall for any coats you don’t wish to take on the our with you. We have a cloakroom for bags too.
