Atholl Estates are excited to bring you Blair Castle Trail Weekender on the 5th and 6th of June 2021, in partnership with Outsider Events.

Staged within the grounds of Blair Castle and the wider estate, this energetic weekend of trail running offers races ranging from 5km, right up to the 58km ‘Full Tilt Ultra’.

All respective races start at the event village before runners make their way past the Castle and into the stunning Diana’s Grove, which features some of the tallest trees in Scotland.

From here on out, depending on your choice of race, runners either loop round past Hercules Gardens and back to the start, fork off up the winding Glen Tilt or head toward the 1009m high summit of Ben Dearg.

Choose your Trail

5K – Diana’s Grove

10:30 am start time, Saturday 5th June 2021 – Elevation – 100m

A rolling route that winds through spectacularly large trees, including the tallest Japanese larch and Red fir in Britain.

After leaving the woods, runners follow the border of Hercules Garden before reaching the finish line back at the event village.

10K – Hercules Garden

10:30 am start time,  Sunday 06th June 2021, Elevation – 200m

Like the 5km, our 10km race follows the magical forest trails through Diana’s Grove.

Instead of returning to the event village, runners will venture down the fringes of Glen Tilt via the Blairuachdair forest before returning back down the Glen and onto the finish.

29K – Dearg Up n’ Doon

09:30 am start time, Saturday 5th June 2021 – Elevation – 1000m

The Dearg Up n’ Doon takes quite a step up from the two shorter route options.

Reaching heights of over 1000m, runners will experience extensive views across the Cairngorm mountains and the remote beauty of the Allt Scheicheachan Bothy.  A great stepping stone for runners looking to dip their toe into the higher altitude world of trail running.

58K – Full Tilt Ultra

09:00 am start time, Sunday 6th June 2021 – Elevation – 1800m

Taking in the two Munro summits of Cairn a Chlamain and Ben Dearg, along with Glen Tilt and the vast forests of Blairuachdair, the Full Tilt Ultra has it all. A truly stunning route that is not for the faint-hearted.

Additional Information

There is so much more to a race than just the run itself.

With this in mind, there will be a range of activities that are inclusive of your race entry. This extends to friends and family too, so why not make a weekend of it?

Expect to see yoga classes over the course of the weekend, access to a mix of catering experiences in our event village, a bar area – and live music on a Saturday night. All of this is set within the magnificant grounds of Blair Castle.

Activities on Atholl Estates

Alongside the race activities, Atholl Estates can provide many other activities for you to experience during your visit, including Fishing on the River Tilt, Tummel, Garry, or our selection of hill lochs, Land Rover Safaris, Tractor-Trailer Tours & Ranger Activities.

All of these and more can be found on our Activities page.

COVID Policy

We are still a few months away from June and are hoping that come this time, we should have regained some normality and Outsider Events will be able to run the Blair Castle Trail Weekender. However, there will be a tiered event structure if needs be.

The structure is as follows:

Plan A – Mass start

Plan B – Runners set off in waves

Plan C – Runners set off in an individual TT format

The worst-case scenario will be that we are unable to run the event in June. If this is the case, runners will automatically be transferred to the new date. If the new date doesn’t work, we will offer a full refund, less a 4% entry central processing fee.
