The castle and gardens are five-star graded by Visit Scotland and a popular venue for weddings and private functions. The caravan park is four-star graded and currently recognized by the AA as its premier accredited park in Scotland.

Rural Worker

We are now recruiting for a Rural Worker, a new role created on a fixed-term contract of two years, offering the opportunity to work within a number of departments on Atholl Estates.

THE ROLE INCLUDES:

  • Horse Trials (January – August)
    • Grass Management to include strimming, and quad bike flail mower
    • Site and equipment maintenance
    • General duties to support course build during July / August
  • Game Department (August – December)
    • Pony Ghillie for grouse, stags and hind sporting parties on challenging terrain.
    • Host wildlife tours for small groups, after relevant training.
  • Ranger Service (Ongoing)
    • Routine path checks and repairs to gates and styles
    • Cyclical bridge checks and repairs
    • Storm and flood repairs to paths and tracks
    • Replacing and repairing waymarkers, gates, signs and other countryside furniture.
    • Scouts projects, Open Day
    • Engaging with the public regarding access and recreation

Castle Storyteller

We are now recruiting for our next generation of Castle Storytellers, responsible for bringing the history of Blair Castle and Gardens to life. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with the ability to enchant and delight our guests with compelling storytelling, and provide the highest standard of customer care for individual and group visitors whilst assisting with the security of the Castle and its exhibits.

THE ROLE INCLUDES:

  • To welcome groups and individual castle visitors and assist the castle team in providing a 5 Star visitor experience.
  • To conduct guided tours as requested (full training given), deal with visitor enquiries and support interpretation activities as they arise throughout the season (training provided as required) e.g. seasonally themed tours, children’s holiday activities, special event days, etc.
  • Upsell and cross-sell specific products to ensure sales targets are met e.g. guide books.
  • Assist in the delivery of marketing and sales initiatives as directed by the Head Guide and Operations Manager.
  • Assist and support ticketing staff in meeting and greeting visitors, sales and checking tickets, as required.
  • To contribute to the security of the castle, its contents and the safety of its visitors and staff.
  • Working closely with castle administration personnel and complying with directives and requests as appropriate
  • Provide assistance to and support teams within the castle enterprise as required, including reception, retail, housekeeping and administration teams.

This is a seasonal position during the main opening season, which is from 1st April 2022 -31st October 2022, and different length contracts are available to reflect the demands of the season.

Castle Ticketing Assistant

We are now recruiting seasonal Ticketing Assistants, responsible for being the friendly first impression to every guest of Blair Castle and Gardens. We are looking for personable and welcoming individuals who will greet and provide the highest standard of customer care for individual and group visitors, whilst also assisting with the security of the Castle and its exhibits.

THE ROLE INCLUDES:

  • Meeting and greeting group and individual visitors, dealing with enquiries and assisting the castle team in providing a 5 Star visitor experience, working between our ticketing office in the grounds and our entrance hall.
  • Selling and checking tickets and the associated cash handling, credit card processing, etc., using appropriate equipment and technology.
  • Upsell and cross-sell specific products to ensure sales targets are met e.g. guide books and annual passes
  • Reconciliation of cash at end of day and appropriate reporting.
  • Ensuring the security of all cash and payment vouchers at all times.
  • Working closely with castle accounts and administration personnel and complying with directives and requests as appropriate.
  • Maintaining accurate and up to date records at all times including special ticket sales, complimentary tickets and database information, etc
  • Administration as required including help to maintain/photocopy stationery and equipment stocks.
  • Assisting in the delivery of marketing and sales initiatives as directed by the Head Guide and Operations Manager.
  • Assist with maintaining the security and safety of visitors, staff, the Castle and its contents.
  • Assisting and supporting floor guiding staff in maintaining a high level of customer interaction for which an understanding of the Castle and its contents is required.
  • Provide assistance and support to teams within the castle enterprise as required, including guiding, housekeeping, retail and administration.

Castle Housekeeping Assistant

We are now recruiting seasonal Housekeeping Assistants, responsible for the cleanliness and preservation of Blair Castle and Gardens. We are looking for personable and experienced individuals who will assist with housekeeping and cleaning duties to a professional standard in all areas of Blair Castle.

THE ROLE INCLUDES:

  • To assist with general housekeeping and cleaning duties, including vacuuming and dusting, working with extra care around antique and museum items in the castle.
  • Cleaning of all public areas including the castle exhibition.
  • Daily deep cleaning and daily maintenance cleaning of toilets.
  • Cleaning staff room areas and toilets.
  • Assistance and support to other teams within the Castle enterprise as required.

Blair Castle Caravan Park Reception Team Supervisor

This is an exciting time to join Atholl Estates as we continue to evolve and expand our holiday accommodation offer. The caravan park is our most significant holiday accommodation enterprise and it’s a thriving and lively business with a strong and friendly team. The reception supervisor leads the customer-facing team who greet guests on-site, take bookings by phone and process bookings taken online. Customer service, organisation and a commitment to high standards of accuracy are essential.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, inspire and train the reception team to perform at consistently high standards
  • Ensure the team responds to all phone and email enquiries, answering in a fast, efficient and friendly manner.
  • Ensure all customer bookings are processed accurately and effectively.
  • Ensure the highest delivery of customer service for park guests, taking responsibility to ensure queries and questions directed to reception staff are dealt with swiftly and courteously.
  • Implement and own the EPOS booking system, optimizing its potential to provide effective communication with customers, accurate sales analysis data and minimize administration time.
  • Run reports from park EPOS systems and present them as required within Microsoft Excel
  • Effectively deliver all promotion of sales through the website, PR and social media.
  • In coordination with the estate’s retail manager, implement stock ordering for the reception shop, maintain optimum stock levels and achieve sales targets.
  • Maintain reception as a tidy and impressive space that provides excellent first impressions for guests arriving at the park.
  • Compile and maintain caravan and lodge information packs, making sure that a system is followed to check and update the packs throughout the year.
  • Own the responsibility to update information boards around the park (inside and outside reception, shower blocks), ensuring all signage is tidy and brand compliant.
  • Develop a comprehensive training reference guide for seasonal reception staff.
  • Deliver induction and training for all park reception staff and be responsible for ensuring consistently excellent customer service and administrative competency.
  • Deliver accurate daily cash/cheque/credit/debit card handling and reconciliations.
  • In the absence of the Park Administrator, manage banking all monies.
  • Promote all areas of the Atholl Estates tourism operation.
  • Work in a flexible and collaborative manner in order that the park team achieve excellent standards of customer service and guests experience a fantastic holiday.
  • Any other duty or role on Atholl Estates where your experience, skills and training are appropriate.

Finance Director 

A new opportunity has arisen to join the finance and management team at the Estate. Following successful promotion internally and team restructure the Estate requires a part-time Finance Director available for approximately 1 day per week. This role is hugely varied, covering all aspects of financial and strategic management of all businesses managed under the banner of Atholl Estates as well as overseeing the continued development of the finance team.

The role will offer exposure to all aspects of the estate and the various stakeholders, including the prestigious Blair Castle visitor attraction as well as the successful Blair Castle Caravan Park, several rural businesses and significant investment plans over the coming years.

A flexible approach to working is in place both in terms of location and level of time commitment. A competitive day rate or employment package is available and will be discussed as to what is most suitable dependent on candidate profile and needs.

Headline responsibilities are noted below, however the senior nature of the role will require active involvement in any areas of the business as required from time to time.

  • Setting, monitoring and implementing strategic direction of the finance department
  • Being an active member of the Board of Directors, ensuring appropriate financial reporting is provided and analysed to drive forward performance of the business
  • Ensure timely, accurate reporting of financial information to the Board of Trustees and business owners, including engagement with Trustees and owners as required
  • Lead the liaison of the finance function with external advisors, including but not limited to auditors, bankers and tax advisers
  • Lead the liaison of the finance team with the rest of the business / set strategy for involvement. Ensure appropriate department heads have sound controls and processes in place to effectively manage financial outcomes and input on general business requirements across these departments
  • Lead the implementation of the Forward Plan for Finance and assist other departments in fulfilment of their objectives where required
  • Appraisal of investment opportunities as and when required
  • Line management of Head of Finance and oversight of team personnel practices

Senior Lodge Housekeeper

A permanent position has become available to take a leading role with our housekeeping team, to ensure we deliver exceptional standards while creating a happy and supported working environment.

Job Specification:

Reporting directly to the Lodges Manager, the role demands an eye for detail and a natural aptitude for leading and inspiring people. The core objective of this role is to organise, observe and motivate while leading from the front, as this will be an operational placement. The senior housekeeper will be working alongside their team.

Specifically, the role includes:

  • Undertaking exceptionally high standards of housekeeping at our self-catering accommodation across the estate, including the caravan park when required
  • Supporting the lodge manager in the recruitment and development of the lodge housekeeper team
  • Establishing clear training guidance related to written standards of how the property is to be cleaned and presented, both inside and defined exterior areas such as window cills, door steps, patios and balconies
  • In liaison with the lodge manager, establishing staffing rotas on a monthly basis to support the booking timetable
  • Monitoring standards of laundry from our laundrette suppliers and delivery / uplift service
  • Maintaining high standards of tidiness and appropriate levels of stock in our storerooms through the effective use of an inventory
  • Monitoring housekeeping stocks and providing the lodge manager with product details for purchase orders in a timely manner
  • Ensuring high and consistent levels of cleanliness and presentation across the properties, aiming to work beside each housekeeper regularly to guide, encourage and motivate. Using photographic records of each room in each lodge to avoid changes to layout gradually developing
  • Periodically auditing specified lodge inventories against actual inventories to ensure housekeepers are maintaining levels
  • Noting customer requests/complaints and passing them on to the lodge manager
  • Listing and overseeing that winter work which includes spring cleaning and any post maintenance reinstatement, is done by housekeeping team
  • Training and encouraging housekeepers to notice when maintenance work is required, including minor items like window cleaning or blocked gutters and to report these matters to the lodge manager
  • Supporting housekeepers on occasions where maintenance or repair requirements are not being attended to
  • Working collaboratively with the caravan park senior housekeeper to support work rotas during peak periods

Role Requirements

  • Previous experience in housekeeping roles where high standards are expected
  • Previous roles involving responsibility as a team leader
